Julia Francis explores themes of desire, mental health, and addiction in new single, Cinderella.

Northwest blues-rock singer-songwriter Julia Francis is dropping her new single CINDERELLA on May 7, 2021 on all digital platforms, the first song off her upcoming full-length live album, LIVE AT THE ROYAL ROOM.

Julia Francis, whose voice is like the butterfly effect of a howling midnight wind from the globes other side, fronts the song and she is backed by versatile lead guitarist Darren Loucas, bassist supreme Evan Flory-Barnes, twinkling keyboardist Mark Lutwak and bashing drummer Mike Peterson. The five-piece is a swirling portal to the days when rainbow-colored sunglasses and VW busses made for the best of friends. Mixed by veteran producer Steve Fisk (Heather Duby, Ben Gibbard, Car Seat Headrest) and mastered by the acclaimed Rachel Field of Resonant Mastering (Thunderpussy, Pearl Jam), the song shrieks and swoons.

Julia describes the making of CINDERELLA: "Recorded live at Seattle's Royal Room in 2020 just before Covid took hold, I wrote the song nearly twenty years earlier, when I was on the brink of some major life changes, leaving a marriage, struggling with addiction and childhood trauma, and trying to find the REAL ME. I hope listening to this song inspires you to channel your own pent-up desires, embrace your authentic self, and release what no longer serves you.”

Julia Francis is a Seattle-based singer-songwriter. Her music is deeply rooted in the blues legacies of women like Gertrude "Ma” Rainey and Billie Holiday among others. KBCS Music Director Iaan Hughes describes her voice as "howling, blistering...like Bessie Smith and Sister Rosetta Tharpe colliding with Slick and Tedeschi. There's a mind-clearing blow to Julia!s voice that does just what music should: it takes you out of yourself.”

Francis sees her voice as a powerful tool for healing and uniting people, making her performance a moving and uplifting one so you better hold on.
